THE STORY OF PLAY SMARTER KIDS

    PLAY SMARTER KIDS WAS FOUNDED IN 2012 AS A MOBILE ENRICHMENT PROGRAM. WE BEGAN BUILDING AND CUSTOMIZING OUR CURRICULUM WHILE WORKING WITH PRE-SCHOOLS, RECREATION CENTERS, PRIVATE SCHOOLS, HISD, & SURROUNDING SCHOOL DISTRICTS. PSK HAS BROUGHT ITS UNIQUE STORIES & ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS TO HUNDREDS OF KIDS IN THE WOODLANDS & HOUSTON AREA. 

    IN THE SUMMER OF 2016 PLANS FOR OUR FIRST LOCATION WERE UNDERWAY, AND AT THE BEGINNING OF 2017 WE OPENED OUR DOORS TO SHARE OUR STORIES & PROGRAMS WITH THE COMMUNITY!

    AS FAR AS THE FUTURE GOES, THE SKY'S THE LIMIT, & WE HOPE TO SHARE OUR PROGRAM WITH HUNDREDS MORE KIDS IN THE YEARS TO COME WITH PLANS OF EXPANDING & GROWING IN JANUARY OF 2018.

STORIES ARE A GREAT WAY TO DELIVERY INFORMATION! OUR BRAINS ARE WIRED FOR IT, & IS WHY OUR ANCESTORS USED IT TO PASS DOWN CULTURE & LESSONS FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS. AT PSK WE USE IT AS A POWERFUL WAY TO INCORPORATE THINGS LIKE HISTORICAL FACTS, GEOGRAPHY, LITERACY, MEMORY & IMAGINATION.  WE ALSO USE STORYTELLING AS A FUN WAY TO INTRODUCE NEW CONCEPTS & ACTIVITIES. IT KEEPS KIDS CONSTANTLY MOVING FROM STORY TO TIME TO ACTIVITIES, & GIVES PURPOSE TO EACH LESSON. RESEARCH FOUND THAT USING STORYTELLING AS A LEARNING TOOL HAS BENEFITS LIKE:

Aurora's Story
MY STORY WITH PLAY SMARTER KIDS

MY NAME IS AURORA. FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER I HAVE LOVED STORIES. AS A CHILD, I WROTE STORIES, I READ STORIES, & BEGGED MY PARENTS TO TELL ME STORIES. SCHOOL ON THE OTHER HAND, WAS NOT MY FORTE. AS A SHY & SENSITIVE TYPE, I FOUND SCHOOL SOMEWHAT SCARY. THERE WERE TONS OF KIDS, IT WAS USUALLY LOUD, & I HAD A DIFFICULT TIME RELATING TO THE CONTENT OR OTHER KIDS. MORNINGS LED TO STOMACH ACHES, & SOON I WAS STAYING HOME AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK.     

 

OVER THE YEARS, I LEARNED TO MOVE PAST MY TIMIDNESS, GRADUATED FROM MONTGOMERY H.S., & WAS OFF TO COLLEGE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS. WHILE ATTENDING THERE, I BEGAN WORKING AT BOTH REGGIO EMILIA & MONTESSORI SCHOOLS. MY PASSION FOR TEACHING WAS INSTANT, BUT I COULD NOT SEE MYSELF IN A TRADITIONAL CLASSROOM. I PURSUED MY STUDIES IN INTERIOR DESIGN, EARLY PSYCHOLOGY, SOCIOLOGY, & SPEECH PATHOLOGY BEFORE GRADUATING.

SHORTLY AFTER, HAPPENSTANCE LEAD ME TO TEACHING & CREATING STEM & ROBOTICS CURRICULUM; INCORPORATING MY LOVE OF WRITING INTO CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT & TEACHER TRAINING. WHEN I BEGAN PLAY SMARTER KIDS, I HAD A CLEAR VISION ON THE TRADITIONAL PHILOSOPHIES I WOULD INCORPORATE AND MY IDEAS ON MODERNIZING CURRICULUM TO FIT THE NEEDS OF TODAY'S CHILDREN.

 

OUR PROGRAMS PROUDLY INCORPORATE A DYNAMIC ENVIRONMENT THAT CONSTANTLY KEEPS KIDS MOVING, TONS OF HANDS ON ACTIVITIES DURING EACH CLASS, & OF COURSE ...STORIES! OUR PROGRAM ACTIVELY ENCOURAGES & CHALLENGES CHILDREN'S NATURAL CURIOSITY WHILE KEEPING THINGS CREATIVE & FULL OF IMAGINATION.
